Introduction to Judaism is an 18-week program designed for individuals and couples from Jewish and various other faith backgrounds who want to explore Jewish holidays and life cycle ceremonies, Jewish values, symbols and traditions, and Jewish liturgy and texts. Introduction to Judaism is ideal for those who are part of a Jewish family, are considering conversion, or simply want to gain a deeper understanding of Jewish life. Partners in interfaith relationships are encouraged to enroll together.

Introduction to Judaism is cosponsored by the Union for Reform Judaism and the Chicago Associate of Reform Rabbis.

Fees: $275 per individual or couple for 18 weeks of classes. (Does NOT include textbooks - a list will be provided before class begins).

About the Coordinator

Joy Wasserman serves as the Coordinator of Reform Jewish Chicago, overseeing both the Introduction to Judaism and A Taste of Judaism® programs. Joy is grateful for the opportunity to guide and accompany individuals, couples and families, on their spiritual journeys. She brings much experience, warmth and sense of humor to her work. Joy graduated from the College-Institute’s Rhea Hirsch School of Education with a Masters of Arts in Jewish Education and earned a B.A. (Honours) in Jewish Studies from York University in Toronto, Canada. Joy has served the Reform Jewish community for more than three decades. For fun, Joy and her family love to explore the National Parks across the country.
