Cantor Katie Oringel

Cantor Katie Oringel served as cantor and youth director at Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto for the past 10 years. An alumna of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, in 2009, she earned a master’s degree in sacred music and was ordained, and in 2014 she completed a certificate in Jewish education specializing in adolescents and emerging adults. In 2019, she received a certificate in Jewish leadership from Spertus Institute in partnership with Northwestern University.

When we arrived in Israel, I removed it my kippah. I’d become comfortable wearing it in Toronto, but in Israel, I feared being questioned about my Jewish choice.
