David McCarty-Caplan

David McCarty-Caplan (he/him/his/el) was born in Bogota, Colombia but adopted and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Bethesda, Maryland. This lived experience has profoundly shaped his personal and professional interest in the complexities of identity development, race, and social justice. He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Social Work at California State University, Northridge. Dr. McCarty-Caplan received his Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Chicago and his M.A. in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago. In addition to research and teaching on issues related to inequity and identity, he is also increasingly involved in work dedicated to the intersections of adoption, fatherhood and race, and improving the capacity of Jewish communities to foster a sense of inclusion and belonging for Jews of Color.
