Jacqueline Jules (she/her) is the author of over fifty books for children including The Hardest Word, The Porridge-Pot Goblin, Picnic at Camp Shalom, Goodnight Sh'ma, and Never Say a Mean Word Again. I spent months hiding inside my home after Covid-19 was declared a global health emergency. During that time, the Talmudic description of evil spirits resonated with me. It was certainly how I felt, surrounded by invisible threats just outside my door. Since I am a children's author, I channeled these fears into a picture book featuring a supernatural spirit.

Since childhood, Friday night dinner has held a special place in my week. My mother lit candles and set the table with an embroidered cloth and pink china. My father recited blessings over a silver kiddush cup filled with wine and an ornate oval plate that held the challah.
