Former LA Featured by ONE Campaign

marc- cropped.jpgEvery year, the RAC hires several bright-eyed recent college graduates to spend a year advocating in Washington, D.C., for Jewish values and social justice on behalf of the Reform Jewish Movement. You know these Eisendrath Legislative Assistants well: They send you action alerts, help your congregation with social action programming, create educational materials and write on this very blog. I was fortunate to participate in this program last year, and I am pleased to give a shout-out to one of my fellow 2010-2011 LAs, who was featured on the ONE Campaign's blog a few days ago.

The ONE Campaign featured my colleague Marc Friend (pictured above), who now works for American Jewish World Service, because he put together a reflection, discussion and action guide to help Jews connect the upcoming holiday of Sukkot to the current famine in the Horn of Africa. With its focus on harvesting food and reaching out to guests, or ushpizin, Sukkot is an opportune time to think of those in need in Africa and take action to alleviate their suffering. The ONE Campaign's discussion guide includes sermon starters, discussion questions, program ideas, prayers, and concrete action steps you and your congregation can take on this holiday and throughout the year.

You can also browse the RAC's resource guides to help make your Sukkot meaningful this year. From all of us at the RAC, mazel tov to Marc and chag sameach to all!
