URGENT: Tell Your Senators to Reauthorize VAWA!

I know I’ve already written here about the Violence Against Women Act: I’ve written that 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year; one in four women in the U.S. has experienced domestic violence in her lifetime; women who are 20 to 24 years old are at the greatest risk of nonfatal intimate partner violence (a fact that I feel particularly connected to as I sit squarely in the middle of that range). And as VAWA comes to a vote on the Senate floor tomorrow, your time to act is NOW.

It’s up to you to tell your Senators that you will not allow the health and well-being of abused women to be manipulated as a political tool, you insist on equal rights for victims of domestic violence in heterosexual and homosexual relationships, and you demand improvements in responses to the high rate of violence against women in tribal communities.

Take Action Now: Urge your Senators to quickly and effectively reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Together, let’s make sure our priority remains the health, safety and well-being of ALL women.
