October 24: Food Day!
Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food, held every year on October 24. This fall synagogues, churches, schools and community groups will take part in Food Day, tackling local food access, health and sustainability issues. The Reform Movement is a proud participant in Food Day, and the RAC has a menu of resources available to help you commemorate the occasion!
Take a look at our resource guide for events you and your congregation can attend or plan, but also take action now! This year we at the RAC are focusing on Farm Bill advocacy and hope you’ll join us. Anti-hunger programs appropriated by the Farm Bill, like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), help millions of individuals and families keep food on the table in spite of harsh economic conditions. In 2011 SNAP lifted 3.9 million Americans out of poverty. Urge your members of Congress today to support this successful program.
For the next week and a half, RACBlog will be posting about how food justice issues impact various areas that you may not have previously considered. Be sure to check back daily (on RACBlog, Facebook, and Twitter) for more information, ideas for action and resources!
