So while we don’t yet know which candidate won the White House or which party will control the Senate, we do know this: Democracy is strongest when every voice is heard. State officials must take – and be allowed – the time they need to count every vote.

Election Day is fast approaching, but our work is not done yet. There’s still time to make a difference and ensure every voice is heard and every vote is counted this election.

Deuteronomy 16:20 directs us: “Tzedek tzedek tirdof” – Justice, justice shall you pursue. The words remind us of the importance of ensuring justice itself is achieved through just means.

We’re counting down the days until Election Day, and with less than 100 days until November 3, there’s still a lot more work to be done to ensure that every eligible voter is able and ready to cast their ballot. 

The Reform Movement’s 2020 Civic Engagement

I knew I wanted to serve the Reform Jewish community in a professional capacity – but despite encouragement from Reform mentors, I knew the rabbinate wasn’t the right place for me to do so.

Al Vorspan, a giant for social justice, died on February 17 at the age of 95. Like Amos, Micah, and Isaiah, Al was not afraid to speak truth to power.

As we head into the first month of the secular new year, I’ll be inviting my congregation to think with me about what we might do to continue this holy work.
