The New York Times on Sunday published an analysis of the situation in Sudan, "Peaceful Vote on Sudan Appears More Likely," that examined the positive signs evident in advance of the upcoming referendum on Southern Sudan's independence. Though there have been positive steps forward, much work still needs to be done to ensure the referendum happens peacefully and the results are carried out.
