"A ruler is not to be anointed unless the community is first consulted." - Babylonian Talmud, Berachot 55a
Voting is vital to protecting and strengthening our diverse democracy. At 8:00 p.m. ET on March 20, we will prepare to engage voters from marginalized communities as we launch our 2024 Every Voice, Every Vote Campaign! Our Every Voice, Every Vote campaign will focus on connecting volunteers with voters who face the biggest barriers to voting and inspiring them to cast their ballots.
Since the launch of our first Every Voice, Every Vote campaign in 2016, over 10,000 volunteers have contacted more than 2.5 million voters. Protecting the freedom to vote has paved the way for progress in reproductive freedom, voting rights, criminal justice reform, LGBTQ+ rights, climate justice, and more.
In 2024, we must come together once again to break down the barriers set up by voter suppression laws that overwhelmingly impact BIPOC, people who are economically disenfranchised, people with disabilities, young people, and elderly voters. By following the lead of those most impacted, we will work together to create a Movement, and a country, committed to an equitable democracy that reflects our nation's vibrant diversity. By working with our congregations and communities, we will prove once more that we're stronger when we work together.
As we begin to prepare for the presidential election, American voters face disinformation, polarization, and increased barriers to ballot access. Additionally, significant parts of America's population don't believe that the outcome of the last election was legitimate. In this context, our efforts to defend democracy and ensure that all eligible voters can cast their ballots - and that they choose to do so - are even more imperative.
Each of us has a role to play in making sure that all voters have an equal say in the decisions that will impact our lives. Through the Every Voice, Every Vote campaign, we will come together with our partners to address the most critical issues facing our communities, including:
- Protecting voting rights on the local, state, and national levels
- Sending postcards through Reclaim our Vote to contact voters targeted by barriers
- Writing, calling, and speaking to voters who can expand reproductive freedom in states where it is on the ballot (Florida with our RAC-FL campaign, Arizona, Maryland, Nevada, and New York)
- Supporting the passage of the California Climate Justice Ballot Initiative
Be sure to join us on March 20, when we will kick off our Every Voice, Every Vote 2024 campaign, lay the groundwork to build community coalitions, learn more about the issues facing voters in 2024, and jump into action together.
