Haftarah Cantillation: Chant...Don't Say You Can't! - Temple Beth El, Tacoma, WA

Do you have to learn Haftarah chanting by listening over and over again to an MP3? Do you sing the same musical phrases over and over because you don’t know the other sounds? Have you wanted to chant Haftarah but thought it was just too hard? Then come join Cantor Fine as we learn about why we chant and how to comprehend the symbols (called ta’amim in Hebrew) that make up the system of chanting Haftarah. We will work slowly, and Cantor Fine will be introducing all the symbols that are used to chant Haftarah. Those that work faster can do independent work with support from the Cantor. Believe it or not, you will be chanting the first night!

We will use "The Art of Cantillation, Volume 2" trope book. In addition, Cantor Fine will provide those that can read music with musical notation, as well as other study materials. Prerequisites: Reading Hebrew is required, but reading music is not a prerequisite for this class.
