Matot Mas-ei for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

  • Matot Mas-ei for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

    Matot - Mas-ei, Numbers 30:2–36:13

Ever wanted to see how relatable the Torah really is? Counselors at URJ Kutz Camp, a Reform Jewish leadership camp for teens ,wanted to do just that. They made awesome raps discussing the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, for an entire year!

In this double parasha* boundaries are noted and itineraries set! Listen to learn of others they encounter in battle.

*Sometimes two Torah portions are read together on one Shabbat, making it a double parasha

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, Aaron, the Levites too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

What a journey it’s been
We go fight wars and we win
Two portions this week, what a great surprise
Matot Maasei, on this new enterprise

42 different journeys have brought us here
To the promised land, Canaan is top tier
Yes boundaries, those are important to note
For the Land of Canaan is unknown, don’t quote

Against Midianites, a war is declared
As they plotted our destruction, we got to be prepared
It’s dangerous times, but of course we win
The power of the fight comes from within

Lot of people been wondering where we are
What we’ve been up to, but we’re not that far
Melissa’s at Kutz, doing the director thing
Evan’s in New York, doing that URJ ring
And last but not least, there’s Matt as well
He’s in Arizona, let’s all give a yell

We appreciate the love, Numbers is done
We miss you dearly, the next book of Torah will be fun
Kutz Camp is home for one and all
Let’s keep it going each week, and we’ll have a ball
