Sh'lach L'cha for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

  • Sh'lach L'cha for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

    Sh'lach L'cha, Numbers 13:1−15:41

Ever wanted to see how relatable the Torah really is? Counselors at URJ Kutz Camp, a Reform Jewish leadership camp for teens ,wanted to do just that. They made awesome raps discussing the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, for an entire year!

In this parasha, Moses sends twelve spies to the Land of Israel to report on the inhabitants and the country, but their reports aren’t completely truthful. To punish the people, God announces that all those who left Egypt would not enter the Land of Israel except for Joshua and Caleb.

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, Aaron, the Levites too
Ayyoo Josh, you know what to do

Welcome everyone to Shabbat Sha’raps
Before we start, we’ll do a quick recap
El na r’fa na la Moses said
And Miriam was healed, from her toes to her head

Moving on to this week we gotta new portion coming
Sh’lach L’cha, we just gotta keep it running
We’re seeing what’s good, scoping out the land
See what we can build when we all lend a hand

And just like that 12 spies went out
To see the Promised Land and see what it’s about
10 of them came back and said we should fear
We were gonna be defeated, we did not belong here

But Caleb and Joshua were quite the pair
They said that we could do it and not to despair
The people may be big and the people may be strong
But if we believe in God then nothing will go wrong

But the people freaked out, they’re way too scared
Want to go back to Egypt, they were all prepared
And God was fed up, said this is enough
Not going to the Promised Land, ain’t that tough

Except Caleb and Joshua, they’ll lead the way
Making sure the Israelites never go astray
The moral of the story is you gotta believe
The more blessings you give, the more you’ll receive

While Shabbat Sha’Raps was started here
It’s up to you all to spread the cheer
Check out the Torah portion and write some rhymes
Perform them for your regions anytime

Thanks for listening to our pretty cool rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map
