Tazria (and M’tzora) for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

  • Tazria (and M’tzora) for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

    Tazria - M’tzora, Leviticus 12:1-15:33

Ever wanted to see how relatable the Torah really is? Counselors at URJ Kutz Camp, a Reform Jewish leadership camp for teens ,wanted to do just that. They made awesome raps discussing the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, for an entire year!

Read as a double parasha* with the next, this parasha holds the rituals of purification after childbirth, as well as those for skin diseases.

The next parasha, M’tzora, goes into more ways to heal, as well as how people can contract diseases. The rap has some rough info., but listen in!

*Sometimes two Torah portions are read together on one Shabbat, making it a double parasha

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, rituals, and holiness too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

Throwback to last week, Parashat Sh’mini
Nadab and Abihu can no longer be me
We get the rules of kashrut, gotta eat the right food
There’s lots of options, even if it’s barbequed

Gotta keep moving in the Torah show
Tazria-M’tzora, let’s get ready to go
Yeah, that’s right we’re talking leprosy
But also illnesses, cures, and purity

First up this week, it’s all about birth
And the guidelines for women bringing children to this fine earth
It says they’re impure, but it’s really about rest
Gotta make an offering cause they’re #blessed

We learn about diseases of all kinds
How to make people better and know the signs
Leprosy sucks and that’s a fact
But at the least the Torah gives us ways to act

Last but not least we learn some more
About the ways men and women can be impure
We’ll let you look up the specifics on blood and stuff
Like we said throughout, this portion’s pretty rough

Thanks for listening to our 49th rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map
This has been your, Shabbat Sha-Rap!!
