Emor for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

Emor, Leviticus 21:1−24:23

Ever wanted to see how relatable the Torah really is? Counselors at URJ Kutz Camp, a Reform Jewish leadership camp for teens ,wanted to do just that. They made awesome raps discussing the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, for an entire year!

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, rituals, and holiness too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

We’re throwing it back, so you don’t forget
We’ll make it nice and easy, you won’t break a sweat
Gonna welcome the stranger and be holy to God
Keep the holiness going for the Israelite squad

It wouldn’t be Leviticus without any rules
Thanks to Parashat Emor we get some tools
On the ways to sacrifice and keep the holiness code
Being good to each other is the holy road

It’s also right here, that we learn some more
About resting on the Sabbath after six days of chores
We get the dates for some other holidays
Gotta stay true to the Israelite ways

Well there’s Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
Where we celebrate and atone even more
Passover comes and then Shavuot
Building sukkahs all over the place for Sukkot

When a fight breaks out in the Israelite crew
We learn about punishment and what to do=
The Torah says here an eye for an eye
But always remember, it makes the whole world blind

Thanks for listening to our 51st rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map
This has been your, Shabbat Sha-Rap!!
