Korach for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

Korach, Numbers 16:1−18:32

Have you ever been curious how relatable the Torah really is? A group of staff from the Kutz365 Alumni Network decided to spend an entire year rapping the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, from the Torah. Shabbat Sha'Raps started at camp in the summer of 2016, and then grew through Zoom over the course of an entire year. Filmed from Zoom boxes around the globe, this creative interpretation of Torah is a fun and easy way to understand the weekly Torah portion. Join Evan, Matt, Melissa, and lots of special guests on this joyful journey of discovering Torah!

In this parasha, Korach leads a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. Listen and learn all about it!

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, Aaron, the Levites too
Ayyoo Josh, you know what to do

Well it’s on to Korach, let’s get ready to go
We just keep moving on in the Torah show
Sh’lach L’cha was just last week
Stay with us now, we’re still climbing the peak

Now let’s set the stage, we’ll make it real clear
Welcome to the Torah rap battle of the year
I’m ya boy Korach and we got Moses too
Time to let God explain to the crew

The issue on the table: total leadership of the Israelite people
And do we continue with Moses as our leader or do find someone new to take the lead
Remember, my decision on this matter is not subject to Kohanim approval
The only person you have to convince is me
Korach of the Levites, you have the floor, sir

When we were enslaved in Egypt land
This guy named Moses wanted to lend a hand
But he grew up in the palace, ain’t one of us
Now you gotta start thinking who we can trust
The people are with me, you best believe it
Two hundred fifty sidekicks just wanna see you quit
You’re not that special, don’t rise about your station
Everything you do betrays the ideals of our nation

Well you must be out of your Israelite mind if you think
God’ll let you bring all our people to the brink
Korach look at you, you think that you’re a big man
But you can’t lead the people, only I can
Hashem is with me, we’ve all seen that’s true
It’s me that he’s with - it just can’t be you
Not in this for fame or even for the glory
I just want to lead the people in our story

Now stop that Moses, you’re a dirty filthy liar
You’ve made our situation so very very dire
We’re starving and hungry, our situation is the worst
Instead of all these blessings, you’ve sent us all a curse

Sit down Korach before you get all swallowed up
Or are you a little baby, do you need a sippy cup?
I’m doing what’s right for each and every one
So you better be quiet, your argument is done

Ya know what Moses, just get out the way
The takeover is here, it’s a brand new day

Sorry there Korach, that’s just not gonna be
You’re getting swallowed up when I count to three
1-2-3….BOOM!!

And Korach was finished, sent down beneath the ground
He went and disappeared, he never will be found
He questioned our nation, leader, and even more God
He’s not what this people need, he really is a fraud

Thanks for listening to our Korach rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map

This has been your …
Shabbat sha--raps!
