Noach for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

Noach, Genesis 6:9−11:32

Have you ever been curious how relatable the Torah really is? A group of staff from the Kutz365 Alumni Network decided to spend an entire year rapping the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, from the Torah. Shabbat Sha'Raps started at camp in the summer of 2016, and then grew through Zoom over the course of an entire year. Filmed from Zoom boxes around the globe, this creative interpretation of Torah is a fun and easy way to understand the weekly Torah portion. Join Evan, Matt, Melissa, and lots of special guests on this joyful journey of discovering Torah!

In this week’s parasha, Noah is told by God to make an ark before a big flood. He is told to gather animals two by two and bring them aboard, along with his family. After the flood, God promises never to destroy God's people again, and the generations that are born are listed. Listen now to hear these names and to find out what happens when people try to build a tower to the sky!

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about creation, the garden, the great flood, too,
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

Throwback to last week, it was B’reishit
And to be totally honest, it was totally sweet
God made the whole earth in 6 freakin’ days
And then took Shabbat to step back and gaze

For Shabbat Sha’Raps, it’s number twenty-three
Every Saturday morning, it’s the place to be
This week we meet Noah, and his pretty big boat
And like Jordan & Lebron, he is the GOAT

Watch out world, there’s a big flood coming
God was real mad, there was no homecoming
Noah gathers animals two by two
Heads up world, this flood’s going after you

After the flood, we see a big rainbow
This won’t happen again, and that’s fo sho
Don’t be afraid, it will all be okay
We will make it through, we’re bound to stay

Don’t forget the other part of the portion this week
The Tower of Babel, where the people seek

To build a tower all the way to the sky
Too bad God said no, and made them all cry
Everyone was scattered, we don’t know where
But we’re all living good, without a care

Thanks for listening to our twenty-third rap
Stay tuned for more we’re putting ourselves on the map
This has been your SHABBAT SHA-RAP

On November 8th you know where we’ll be
Standing at the polls making history
No matter who you vote for, this is it
Get out and vote, it’s gonna be lit!
