Sh’mot for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

Sh'mot, Exodus 1:1−6:1

The new Pharoah enslaves the Jewish people and orders all of their sons to be killed. Moses is put in a basket and found in the Nile.  He grows up as a prince, but then learns he’s Jewish and decides that he wants to help his people.

Ever wanted to see how relatable the Torah really is? Counselors at URJ Kutz Camp, a Reform Jewish leadership camp for teens ,wanted to do just that. They made awesome raps discussing the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, for an entire year!

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Pharoah, Moses, the Red Sea too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

But wait, where’s Matt this just can’t be
I guess we’ll have to do this thing separately
I’ll give a quick recap, and let Matt go
See you at the end and that’s fo sho

Throwback to last week, it was pretty fly
Except Jacob and Joseph both had to die
But the tribes were blessed, one by one
We finished Genesis, now it’s on to the fun
