Have you ever been curious how relatable the Torah really is? A group of staff from the Kutz365 Alumni Network decided to spend an entire year rapping the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, from the Torah. Shabbat Sha'Raps started at camp in the summer of 2016, and then grew through Zoom over the course of an entire year. Filmed from Zoom boxes around the globe, this creative interpretation of Torah is a fun and easy way to understand the weekly Torah portion. Join Evan, Matt, Melissa, and lots of special guests on this joyful journey of discovering Torah!
In this parasha, God tells the people to pursue justice in order to be deserving of the land! God runs through lots of laws, which you can click this rap to hear.
Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, Aaron, the Levites too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do
We had Parashat R’eih just last week
And to be totally honest, it was quite on fleek
We had THE Paul Reichenbach join us right here
Blessing and curse, we never fear
Well it’s time for Shoftim, it’s pretty cool
We gotta follow the laws and don’t act a fool
Justice, justice you shall pursue
That we may thrive in the land with our Israelite crew
The rest of the portion repeats a lot
Of all the commandments, we give it some thought
No sorcery or witchcraft is allowed
Just keep telling ourselves we gotta make God proud
On Shabbat Sha’Raps we got a very special guest
She’s from the land of Cleveland and she’s the best
The one, the only, the NFTY President
Kathryn Fleisher is coming to represent
Well this Torah stuff is pretty cool
But I’m here for a different reason, one that gets you out of school
NFTY Convention is coming your way
Everybody get excited, everybody say HEY
February 17-20th are the dates
We’re trying to rep from Canada and all 50 states
Don’t miss this event, NFTY’s gonna thrive
Evan and Matt will do Shabbat Sha’Raps Live
We will see you in Chicago, this city’s a hit!
Stomp clap, stomp clap, it’s gonna be lit!
Thanks for listening to our fourteenth rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map
This has been your – Shabbat Sha’Rap!
