Tzav for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

  • Tzav for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

    Tzav, Leviticus 6:1−8:36

Ever wanted to see how relatable the Torah really is? Counselors at URJ Kutz Camp, a Reform Jewish leadership camp for teens ,wanted to do just that. They made awesome raps discussing the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, for an entire year!

Listen in on this parasha to learn about the priests’ sacrifices. Then learn about when we are told about kosher meat! Plus, Aaron and sons are ordained priests.

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, rituals, and holiness too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

To be honest the next couple portions are interesting
But when we rap, we dance and sing
We learned about those offerings all said and done
Learning about Torah can be pretty fun

Welcome to the Torah, our next portion
Tzav is it’s name, Moses’ contortion
It’s time to learn about those holy priests
And animal offerings of the holy beasts

Check out that fire coming from the top
Of the tabernacle, looking hot
It keeps on burning at all times
Never stops, not once, all through our rhymez

Well it’s time to initiate Aaron’s crew
No this ain’t college, that part’s true
For seven days they stay in the compound
Priesthood on the other side, ain’t that sound

Congrats UNC fam on a solid game
Gonzaga fell, it was quite tame
Our teams all lost, yes that’s true
U of A lost again it’s like deja vu
Yet we stick together for the Southwestp family hood

I hope this weekend you’re having fun
Oh the places you’ll go in the nice warm sun
You know who else rhymes and keeps it loose
The man himself, it’s Dr. Seuss

Well you’ve heard his work so we’ll just recap
About the cat and the hat and how he likes to rap
About all kind of fishes, one then two
Just to keep it going, red then blue

And there’s a big elephant who has a heart
And saves the Whos, doing more than his part
Then we got the Lorax, who speaks for the trees
Saving the world, with just you and me

Don’t forget about Gertrude McFuzz now
Learned to love herself, and everyone said wow
Yertle the Turtle learned a whole lot
Being kind to others is the lesson being taught

Thanks for listening to our 46th rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map
