Have you ever been curious how relatable the Torah really is? A group of staff from the Kutz365 Alumni Network decided to spend an entire year rapping the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, from the Torah. Shabbat Sha'Raps started at camp in the summer of 2016, and then grew through Zoom over the course of an entire year. Filmed from Zoom boxes around the globe, this creative interpretation of Torah is a fun and easy way to understand the weekly Torah portion. Join Evan, Matt, Melissa, and lots of special guests on this joyful journey of discovering Torah!
After God sends seven plagues upon the Egyptians, Pharaoh still will not free the Jewish slaves. God sends two more plagues, but Pharaoh still will not let the people go. God warns Moses about the killing of the first born and the Israelites put blood on their doorposts so that the angel of death will pass over them (That's where the word “Passover” comes from!). Listen now to find out what happens when Pharaoh’s son is killed.

It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Pharaoh, Moses, the Red Sea too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do
Parashat Va-eira we’ll give a quick recap
Pharaoh was evil and fell into the trap
Cause the plagues came down, and he still said no
While Moses was saying, let my people go
After 7 whole plagues, we get some more
And they’re pretty much worse than ever before
Locusts everywhere and darkness reigns
The death of the first born, that’s insane
But before the 10th, Moses tells the peeps
To protect themselves, while their families sleep
They should take a lamb and sacrifice
And mark their homes with blood, ain’t that nice?!
Then one night, the final plague comes down
Over every city and over every town
Nothing left to lose, Pharoah lets us go
It’s a major shift in the Exodus show
After 430 years in the desert sand
The Israelites depart for the Promised Land
We get the rules of Passover straight from God
We’ll continue next week to follow the squad
Thanks for listening to our 36th rap
Stay tuned for more we’re putting ourselves on the map
