4 Jewish Ways to Take Part in #GivingTuesday

November 29, 2019Kate Bigam Kaput

Counter all the consumerism of Black Friday by participating in #GivingTuesday, an annual day of global giving that this year falls on December 3.

#GivingTuesday provides a unique forum to collectively draw on the principles of tikkun olam – repair of the world – by volunteering, advocating, and providing financial support to the work of the broader Reform Jewish community.

This #GivingTuesday, give back in one or more ways that are meaningful to you and support causes and organizations whose work you value:

1. Make a donation.

Strengthen ReformJudaism.org and our vibrant Reform Jewish community by investing in the work of the Union for Reform Judaism. Your contribution will help support the creation of new and engaging content on ReformJudaism.org, including our This Week in Jewish Life email each Friday, the month Jewish Dish foodie email, our three popular podcasts, holiday recipes, family activities, thought-provoking blog posts, and more throughout the year.

2. Make a Jewish commitment.

There are so many ways to invest in your own Judaism: Use our Find a Congregation tool to locate a Reform Jewish synagogue near you, and become a part of a spiritual community today. Dedicate yourself to Jewish continuity by committing to daily Jewish learning through Ten Minutes of Torah, a short email each weekday on a topic of Jewish interest. Locate and sign up for a class about Judaism in your area. Share our resources with a friend. How will you recommit to your Judaism?

3. Make your voice heard.

Tikkun olam is central to our Reform Jewish faith, and advocacy is a central tenet of our work. If you live in the United States, visit the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism’s Legislative Action Center to contact elected officials on legislative issues of critical importance, from social justice and human rights to immigration and environmental justice.

4. Make a stronger Jewish future.

Encourage the young Jews in your life to make lifelong connections to Judaism and nurture their Jewish identities by participating in our Reform Jewish youth programs in North America, Israel, and all over the world, including summer camps, Israel trips, study-abroad programs, and more.

Together we can create a more just, whole, and compassionate world for all. Will you join us?
