Haazinu for Teens: Shabbat Sha-raps

Haazinu, Deuteronomy 32:1–52

Have you ever been curious how relatable the Torah really is? A group of staff from the Kutz365 Alumni Network decided to spend an entire year rapping the weekly Torah portion, or parasha, from the Torah. Shabbat Sha'Raps started at camp in the summer of 2016, and then grew through Zoom over the course of an entire year. Filmed from Zoom boxes around the globe, this creative interpretation of Torah is a fun and easy way to understand the weekly Torah portion. Join Evan, Matt, Melissa, and lots of special guests on this joyful journey of discovering Torah!

In this parasha, Moses says a prayer for the people at his death, and recounts the blessings as well as the sins that have been committed. Moses is instructed to view the land he will not be permitted to enter.

Saturday morning and the peeps are here
It’s time for Shabbat – let me get a cheer
We’ll talk about Moses, Aaron, the Levites too
Ayyoo Matt, you know what to do

Don’t forget Vayeilech was just before
And you definitely can’t forget about Yom Kippur
We learned all about Joshua, the son of Nun
He’s taking the lead you know he’s on quite the run

Moving on to Haazinu, let’s get it yo
Moses starts to sing so that the people know

God’s blessings got them to the Promised Land
After 40 years chilling in the desert sand
You better be ready cause Moses let’s it go

He talks to the peeps before he climbs Nebo
Give ear, O heavens, let me speak
Let the earth hear my words before I climb that peak

I’m showing love for y’all and of course God too
We’ve been through so much, my little Israelite crew

At first I was mad, but now it’s all chill
Although going to the Promised Land would be pretty ill
What happens next week? See you then
We’ll learn some more Torah and say Amen

Thanks for listening to our nineteenth rap
Stay tuned for more, we’re putting ourselves on the map
This has been your – Shabbat Sha’Rap!
